Schooners and Steamboats

Before roads were major transportation routes people relied on the rivers for commerce and travel. The Mattaponi River was the super highway of its day and people and products were transported to their destinations by schooners and steamboats. The Museum has numerous pictures of these vessels on display and in their archive; and related data including the name, dates of use, and dimensions. The Museum Library also has books on this topic written by King and Queen residents.
