Starting The School Year With King & Queen Teachers

Each year, the Courthouse Tavern Museum invites new King & Queen County teachers, their mentors, and school principals to lunch in August on their first day of school to share with them the support that the Museum can provide to the School System.  Over the years this event has strengthened the Museum’s relationship with the schools. Each year the Museum Council distributes a package to administrators in each school with detailed information on this support.

As part of the opening of the 2019 school year, Central High School Principal, Preston L. McKeller, Jr. organized a bus tour for Central High School teachers to visit local businesses and discuss preparing students for the workforce, incorporating the Commonwealth’s new emphasis on ‘The 5C’s’:  Communicate, Collaborate, Critical Thinking, Creative Thinking, and Citizenship. Although a volunteer organization, the Museum was one of the stops on the tour.
